Huaihua to Hong Kong - Mon-Kok "HONG KONG" - caged bird
- hotel - Birds are a precious pet in China, mainly because
they take up very little space. The ones with the best
songs are the most sought after, and there are hundreds
for sale in well-crafted cages. 'Mongolian larks' are common
at "Chinese markets", the larks are highly valued for their
song. Parakeets sell for around $25:00 HK, while larks with
the best voices fetch up to three times that amount.
With a world wide pandemic of the (H5N1) avian flu
looming many Chinese in Hong Kong are no longer permitted to
keep the caged birds.
